Types of braces we offer at Tijuana Dentist:

We have three options of materials:

  • Metal
  • Sapphire.
  • Gold

        We use two different systems:

  1. CONVENTIONAL System that is with checkups every month (This is the regular, the   one it uses plastic chains).
  2.  SELF-LIGATING BRACES with checkups every three months (This is the most modern system, it does not need plastic chains).

Reasons for orthodontic treatment (braces):

  • Breathing or swallowing problems– Mouth breathing can lead to snoring and sleep apnea.
  • Crossbite– One or more upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth (towards the tongue).
  • Crowding– Involving extra teeth or malpositioned teeth.
  • Deep Overbite– The lower front teeth bite into the upper tissue of the upper teeth.
  • Disfiguring of the face & mouth– Affects the development of the jaw and position of the teeth.
  • Missing or extra teeth– Due to tooth decay, injuries, or inherited problems.
  • Overjet (protruding upper teeth)– Upper teeth that protrude beyond normal and are usually associated with a short lower jaw.
  • Self-image– An attractive smile can boost a person’s self-image and confidence.
  • Spacing between teeth– Teeth are missing or may be too small or too large.
  • Speech, chewing or biting problems- Result from improper occlusion and jaw alignment
  • Underbite (lower jaw protrusion)– Lower jaw is longer than the upper jaw.
  • Finger or thumb sucking– These habits can cause protrusion of the upper incisor teeth and constriction of the upper jaw deforming the face profile of kids.
  • Teeth erupting out of position– Can be guided to proper alignment.

Orthodontic Tijuana treatment stages:

1.- Evaluation and planning stage– The first couple of visits may include the following:

  • The first appointment can be a medical and dental history evaluation.
  • Photographs, x-rays and molds are taken for the diagnosis of the treatment.
After careful planning, your are ready to apply braces or fabricate custom-made appliances for you.

2.- Active Stage– The second appointment can be to place the braces in the upper and lower side. Your treatment involves check ups monthly or every 3 months (depends of the system) for adjustments and following specific treatment requirements to ensure successful treatment for you.

3.- Retention Stage– When treatment is completed, the braces and/or appliances are removed you will need a appliance (retainers).  The retainers are removable and will help to maintain the changes made to your teeth.

Treatment and retention times vary depending on each individual case.  However, retention is a lifetime process. There is no guarantee that teeth will stay aligned without retention. Adult orthodontic patients are more likely to need lifetime retention.

Additional components, including removable devices like expansion appliances, lip bumper, bite block, and many other devices—may also be used to move teeth and jaw bones.  This therapy, termed Dentofacial Orthopedics, is frequently used for kids followed by fixed orthodontic therapy (full braces) to align the teeth and refine the occlusion.
After a course of active orthodontic treatment, patients will may need wear retainers, which help to maintain the teeth in their new and straight positions while surrounding bone reforms around them.
